The Velvet Bitch Totes are sassy, chic, and functional. They are custom designed with upholstery fabrics and no two bags are exactly alike. The front pocket is beautiful, adorned in velvet, and has easy access for keys, cell phones, etc. It's big enough to get lost in! There is a button closure for security. A top zipper for the bag was non-negotiable. The back and lower front of the totes are made with a combination of black velveteen, upholstery velvet, and corduroys; whatever looks best with the pocket fabrics. This combination of blacks also keeps the bags unique. The inside is black ripstop fabric which is both wipe-able and durable, and the black hides a multitude of sins! If you have a bag addiction, this tote bag is a must for your collection!
Tote Story
One day when Lori was heading to work via the bus towards downtown Seattle, she looked down and realized that she was carrying her lunch and extra sweater in a plastic grocery bag. It had seemed convenient earlier that morning but suddenly felt somewhat tacky. Lori decided it was time for a chic and functional tote. And, why not design it herself!
Putting her mind into it's style and design, Lori thought this would be a great opportunity to utilize some of the favorite fabrics in her collection; vintage bark clothe. She decided it would make a great front pocket. Then, she knew she wanted the tote to be large enough to carry her smaller purse, a water bottle, perhaps an umbrella for those unpredictable Seattle showers. Lori also thought a dark interior would be more forgiving for ink or other stains that sometimes occur with high use. Thus, the velvet bitch tote was created! Buyers have put them to use as great gym bags or carryalls for an extra pair of shoes or a sweater, the extras that ladies often take to work.
Since it's inception many different bag sizes have been requested. Lori is happy that one bus ride turned lucrative and has allowed her the joy of again working with fabrics and designs.
Pick Your Pocket
Lori discovered she loved her own choice of front pocket and thought it would personalize the bag if each buyer could "pick your pocket," making the bag unique. The concept has been a great success.
She loved the sassy "Velvet Bitch" label so much, Lori gave it center stage, right on the pocket. People began noticing her tote and before she knew it she was making them like crazy around Christmas, Mother's Day, or as a gift for that person who has everything! Some have purchased a Velvet Bitch bag and created a reason for giving the gift just because they loved the bag so much they wanted to share it.
Label Choices
The sassy Velvet Bitch or the more discriminating VB Originals???
Although the Velvet Bitch began as a tongue in cheek comment (which has provided many hours of laughter), the label has proven to be a great success. Some ladies order the bags just to own a Velvet Bitch! Lori was torn, thinking.."if it's not broke, why fix it?" when it came to her attention that some buyers are car pool moms and great-grandmothers who weren't comfortable toting the label. Lori is happy to design a tote using the VB Originals label. If asked, the buyer can tell everyone it stands for Very Beautiful Originals because after all, they are!
